Matt Kemp will reportedly be traded from the Los Angeles Dodgers to the San Diego Padres in a blockbuster MLB trade within the National League West.

Whelp. Whichever teams wins this trade will be able to remind the other of that fact constantly for the next number of years.

More from Los Angeles Dodgers

In a trade that has been reported on and speculated about for the last number of days, it sounds like the Dodgers are actually going to send Matt Kemp to another team within the division in a blockbuster trade with the San Diego Padres. It is a bold move, but if one thing is clear by now it is the fact that Andrew Friedman came to Los Angeles with a plan and with a willingness to go bold to execute that plan.

We all knew that the Dodgers were going to trade an outfielder this off-season. Given Kemp’s productive 2014 season (.287/.346/.508), they probably would have preferred to keep him and trade Andre Ethier or Carl Crawford. The problem is, teams didn’t want those two. They wanted Kemp.

Bob Nightengale reports that this deal between the Dodgers and Padres will happen, with details still yet to be ironed out.

What seems clear is that catcher Yasmani Grandal will be one of the main pieces headed to the Dodgers, along with prospects.

While the money left on Kemp’s deal is not unreasonable if he plays like he did in 2014, it is only logical that the Dodgers are sending some money to make things work.

Nothing is official yet, but it sounds like Kemp will be headed to San Diego, with plenty of opportunities to prove his old team wrong in the seasons to come.
