The San Francisco 49ers are sitting at 7-6 and needing a big end of the season push to contend for a playoff spot in a heated NFC race. Tight end Vernon Davis thinks he could be a bigger role in the offense, possibly provide the offensive plays that the team needs.
“For me, it’s all about coming here, showing up and doing what I have to do to contribute,” Davis said, via the San Francisco Chronicle. “As far as not getting the ball, (I) leave it up to the offensive coordinator. It’s his call.”
“I look at myself as a playmaker,” Davis added. “Not just someone who’s blocking. I enjoy it. I would love to be involved a little bit more. I would love that. That would be amazing. But like I said, it’s out of my control. All I can do is come here, show up and take care of my responsibilities.”
Davis’ numbers and production are down considerably this season to his usual average, he is on pace for one of his worst seasons in his career. Whether it is enough to turn the 49ers around or get them to run the table in hopes of earning a playoff berth is unknown yet.
