Tennessee Titans rookie QB Zach Mettenberger will miss the rest of the 2014 season, but he believes he’s done enough this year to give him a starting shot in 2015.

As the Tennessee Titans pick up the pieces from a lost 2014 season, their biggest question heading into the offseason will reside under center. They appear ready to move on from Jake Locker, which leaves them veteran backup Charlie Whitehurst and rookie Zach Mettenberger, who was de-activated for the season after suffering a shoulder injury. Should the team draft a new quarterback or find more help for Mettenberger? If you ask the rookie himself, the answer is clear.

“I believe I’ve shown them enough. … I’m confident in my abilities in what I’ve put on the field and put on tape. I think I’ve show the ownership and Ruston (Webster), the GM, and the staff that I can play at a high level and that I’m gonna continue to get better,” Mettenberger said, per 24/7 Sports.

‘Enough’ might be a relative term here. Mettenberger did enough to set himself apart from Locker and Whitehurst, but his was like most rookie seasons in the NFL, unimpressive and nearly impossible to evaluate.

Mettenberger completed nearly 60% of his passes for 1,412 yards, 8 touchdowns and 7 interceptions with 4 fumbles to boot. Those aren’t awful numbers for a rookie QB, but they’re not overwhelming either, which will make the decision all the more difficult for the Titans, who will likely pick in the top five of the 2015 NFL draft.

Still, the idea of drafting another QB isn’t one Mettenberger can concern himself with. He can only control so much, after all.

“Really, all the draft stuff, that’s nothing I can worry about because I don’t have any input on that. Whatever they decide is their decision,” he concluded.
