Marcus Mariota is one of the best college football players in the country, but he’s not always the most sensitive person in the world.
Oregon offensive coordinator Scott Frost was honoring Mariota while he was cleaning up at the College Football Awards, when he recalled a pretty hilarious story about how his quarterback called a woman fat but thought quick on his feet to save the situation.
Maybe Frost was attempting to bolster the stock of Marcus Mariota who by some is already believed to be the top quarterback prospect in the 2015 NFL draft. Either way, we go a hilarious story about Mariota that fits everything we’ve learned about his personality.
"People don’t know this, but [Mariota’s] freshman year he worked at a grocery store in town to pay the extra bills. He was at the register one day and this great big woman comes in. And she said, ‘I’d like to buy a half a head of lettuce.’ He kinda looked at her funny and said, ‘We don’t sell half heads…only whole heads.’ And she got all mad. So he walked back to ask the manager what he should do.He said, ‘Hey, I’ve got this great big fat woman out here who wants to buy a half a head of lettuce. What should I do?’[Mariota] didn’t know it, but the woman had followed him back there. He looks over his shoulder and he sees her standing there. And he said, ‘And this lady wants to buy the other half.’"
Frost ended up the entertaining story with the words “that’s not true’. We are not sure exactly which part is not true, but if I were to venture a guess I would suspect the entire story is not true. I can only imagine there must be a better way to showcase Mariota’s quick decision making process and that is going to be in this upcoming post-season college football playoffs.
