It appears as if former Florida head coach Will Muschamp will be returning to coordinating a defense, and Auburn shall be the destination.

According to a report from Auburn Undercover, former Florida head coach Will Muschamp is indeed on the verge of becoming the next defensive coordinator for the Tigers.

Muschamp had interviewed with the Houston Cougars earlier in the day on Friday about their vacant head coaching position, however he has since withdrawn his name from consideration for that job. Since then, the folks over at 247 Sports have learned that a deal with Auburn is imminent over the weekend at some point, barring any sort of catastrophe.

Florida fired Muschamp following this past regular season after yet another abysmal campaign. While they were bowl eligible, they still had a lot of kinks to work out, mainly on the offensive side of the ball. After a horrible overtime home loss to South Carolina, it was decided that the two sides needed to part ways.

While Muschamp didn’t pan out in his first head coaching gig, no one can deny from his past that he is one of the best defensive coordinators in the game, and he is someone that Auburn desperately needs, as we saw this past season. After giving up over 50 points to Alabama in the Iron Bowl, Auburn fired Ellis Johnson, creating the opening.

Now, a huge dynamic has changed in the SEC West; because with the pairing of Gus Malzahn and Muschamp, the Auburn Tigers just got a little more difficult to deal with.

If Muschamp is still the mastermind at coordinating a defense that he once was, the Tigers could be unstoppable.
