Carolina Hurricanes AHL affiliate makes hilarious ‘Bad Lip Reading’ videos

The Carolina Hurricanes may be eagerly awaiting the return of Jordan Staal, but they still aren’t having the easiest time of it this season — just today, they fell 5-1 to the Philadelphia Flyers, which should be illegal this year.

Their AHL affiliate, the Charlotte Checkers, aren’t exactly having the easiest time of it, either. They’re sitting in fourteenth in the AHL Western Conference — ahead of only the Iowa Wild, who I’d assume are doing so terribly because they never have any good players left after all the recalls (hashtag mumps).

These minor league prospects aren’t letting a losing record get them down, though. Instead, they’re spending all their time doing much more useful things… or, at least, someone in the Checkers’ PR department is:

Enter, the Charlotte Checkers Bad Lip Reading series.

Yes, this team actually has a series of videos like this — they’ve released three so far, and they’re pretty much perfect.

I won’t try and force my opinion on you, but I personally think the greatest part of the videos is the gambit of ‘deep south’ accents they use to dub over guys who, from what I know of some of them, have the strongest Canadian accents on the planet. I’ve never been to any of the Carolinas, so I can’t exactly speak for the accuracy of the accents being used… but they’re hilarious and that’s really the only thing that matters.

Of course, what makes it even better is that they don’t even stick to just mocking their own team — pictured above is the alternate captain for the Hamilton Bulldogs, Joe Finley.

(Who’s listed at six-foot-eight, so I PERSONALLY wouldn’t mock him in a lip dub video. But maybe he’s got a sense of humor?)

What with the mumps and the suspensions and the terrible season this team’s own NHL affiliate has been having, I can appreciate an effort to cheer all of us up. Happy Holidays, Checkers crew.
