Fight fans have been clamoring for years to see Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao square off in the boxing ring. It has almost gottent ot the point were fans stopped wanting to see it, accepting that they’ll likely never see it.
And just when you thought it was over, Mayweather made some comments in an interview in San Antonio, where his promotional company was putting on a boxing card, to drum up the conversation again.
“We are ready. Let’s make it happen. May 2. Mayweather versus Manny Pacquiao. Let’s do it,” Mayweather said, via ESPN.
Of course this fight will be no where near the draw it would’ve been had it happened years ago, when Pacquiao was still on top of his boxing world, but it could still be a huge fight.
Possibly the richest fight in boxing history.
Of course this fight allegedly tried to happen years ago, but drug testing protocol broke down talks.
“I would love to fight Manny Pacquiao. We tried to make the fight happen years ago; we had problems with random blood and urine testing,” Mayweather said. “I just want to be on an even playing field. Now he’s in a very, very tight situation. He’s lost to [Juan Manuel] Marquez [in 2012], he’s lost to [Timothy] Bradley [by controversial decision in 2012 but avenged it in April]. Pay-per-view numbers are extremely low. He’s desperate. I wanted that fight a long time ago. I’m just waiting on them.”
So we’ll see if it happens.
