Mariota led the nation with 53 combined touchdowns, quarterback rating, only threw two interceptions and has the Ducks ranked No. 2 in the nation and will play last year’s winner, Jameis Winston in the Rose Bowl next month when the Ducks take on defending national champion Florida State.
There was very little suspense in this year’s vote after Gordon laid an egg in last week’s Big Ten Championship Game as Wisconsin lost 59-0 to Ohio State and Gordon was limited to 76 yards, his first game in three months with fewer than 100 yards on the ground.
As dominant as Cooper was this year after leading the nation in receptions with 115 and yards with 1,656 and finishing second with 14 touchdowns, he failed to become the third receiver to win the Heisman and first since Desmond Howard in 1991 to take home the honor.
Despite the lack of suspense there was still plenty of reaction from social media and here’s a sampling of the reaction on Twitter to the news that Mariota is the Heisman Trophy winner.
