Greg Schiano has been out of coaching since the Tampa Bay Buccaneers fired him last year and has been a popular name to throw around when there is a coaching vacancy, especially in college where he was mentioned as a potential candidate to replace Brady Hoke at Michigan.

His name popped up in connection with Wisconsin, according to USA Today, although it is uncertain what capacity the meeting between Schiano and Wisconsin athletic director barry Alvarez was because multiple reports have Wisconsin hiring former Badgers quarterback and offensive coordinator and current Pitt head coach, Paul Chryst.

In a statement released on Friday via USA Today, Alvarez said, “We are continuing the process of finding our new head football coach. We have not offered the position to anyone.”

According to Wisconsin policy the earliest they can offer the job is next Wednesday, so this could just be Alvarez ding his due diligence before mkaing the Chryst hire officially official. Perhaps he thinks there could be a spot on Chryst’s staff for Schiano as an assistant.

Schiano has a career record of 68-67 over 11 seasons at Rutgers, including a 56-33 record over his last six seasons in Piscataway.

Chryst has a career record of 19-19 in three seasons at Pitt.
