San Diego Chargers running back Ryan Matthews will not play against the Denver Broncos in a huge AFC West game with NFL playoff implications.

More from Denver Broncos

The San Diego Chargers have a huge AFC West matchup against the Denver Broncos, but they will have to find a way to win without running back Ryan Matthews. He has missed a good chunk of time this season due to injuries, and will miss yet another game.

Matthews came through with a big season last year for the Chargers, but has been nothing short of a major disappointment this year. He has played in just six games this year, and has carried the football 74 times for 330 yards and three touchdowns. A healthy Matthews would have been huge against the Broncos defense, but they will have to turn to other options this afternoon.

Philip Rivers has been putting together a very impressive season thus far, and the Chargers are going to need him to come through with a huge game through the air. The Broncos have quite a few defensive playmakers, and the Chargers have to figure out how to take care of the football.

It will be intriguing to see what San Diego’s gameplan is coming into the game without having a consistent running game. Matthews could have made a bit of a difference, but that isn’t an option now. Branden Oliver and especially Donald Brown will have to step up ina  big way for the Chargers to come away with a win against Denver at home.
