Tim Erixon is making his Chicago Blackhawks debut Sunday night vs the Calgary Flames

Defenseman Tim Erixon is taking his trade to the Chicago Blackhawks with surprising grace, considering that the young blue liner has been all over the league already in his career.

The 23-year-old was a part of the trade that brought Rick Nash from the Columbus Blue Jackets to the New York Rangers, and now a part of the direct trade that sent Chicago Blackhawks forward Jeremy Morin to give Columbus some relief in the face of an ever-mounting injured reserve tally.

Tonight, though, he’s taking the ice with the Hawks against the team that originally drafted him just five short years ago… the Calgary Flames.

According to NBC’s Pro Hockey Talk, Erixon will be taking the ice alongside Michal Roszival on Chicago’s blue line — just hours after getting the wake-up call that sent him to Illinois.

"“I just got a phone call in the morning, woke me up. Just tried to pack up as quick as possible and get to the airport,” said Erixon. “Of course you’re surprised, I just woke up. I wasn’t really aware what was going on”."

The team reassigned Klas Dahlbeck to the Blackhawks’ AHL affiliate, the Rockford IceHogs, in order to make room on the roster for Erixon. The offensively-driven blue liner should be a nice source of relief for the Blackhawks, who have been stretched a bit thin since learning that Trevor van Riemsdyk would be out for an extended period of time.
