Hockey Reddit user Librewian has created a handy chart to see which NHL arena will make you the most broke
Thank you, Librewian, for reminding me that I’m too poor to both get drunk and watch a hockey game live.

Back when this Hockey Reddit user first posted the inquiry about how much an average beer cost at every NHL arena, I figured it was a way to see how miserable we all are (and how many of us are so used to getting obscenely drunk at hockey games that we can rattle this off without a second thought).
Then, I saw the chart that they made.
This both amazes me, because that takes dedication, and horrifies me, because beer is SO EXPENSIVE.
The chart compares the price per fl oz of Bud Light at every single NHL arena. It shows where the average price is, too, in the fill line of the beer — so you can see whether you’re overpaying but saving money, or if you’re really just being robbed point-blank.
I want to cry, because I complained about the price of beer at the last Dallas Stars game I attended. Apparently, I’d forgotten how expensive beer was the last time I was at MSG — and as if being a Bruins fan wasn’t enough to keep me out of the Bell Centre until the day I die, seeing how stupidly expensive the Bud Light is there just sort of reinforced it for me.
A couple of trends to notice — the popularity of a team seems to hold no bearing on how expensive it is to get drunk while watching them, although the fact that the Flyers, Coyotes, Blue Jackets, and Senators all offer you relatively cheap beer means that they know how to drown out your sorrows. Someone should explain this to those who run the ACC… although we’ve all seen a Leafs fan dump his overpriced beer on another fan before, so maybe they just don’t care.

The results were posted along with a full explanation of how the information was gathered, why they did so, and what it means. It also gives you the open disclosure that Librewian owns stock in a beer company, which is shockingly honest and highly appreciated by me.
If you’d like to read the full dissertation, it’s here for your viewing pleasure.
