The New England Patriots led the Miami Dolphins 14-13 at halftime. Then the third quarter happened and the game? Not so much with the close anymore.
The Miami Dolphins were within a point of the New England Patriots Sunday at Gillette Stadium when the clock rolled to double-zero at the end of the first half.
The third quarter, however, has seen the Patriots pull away with 24 points and steam toward another AFC East crown.
Miami went three-and-out twice and Ryan Tannehill threw an interception and the Patriots have taken full advantage.
After throwing a 35-yard bomb to Rob Gronkowski, Tom Brady found a wide-open Julian Edelman in the end zone for a 6-yard score and the rout was on.
Edelman’s touchdown gave the Pats a 38-13 lead. New England clinches its sixth consecutive AFC East title with a win over the Dolphins.

The Patriots got a 3-yard touchdown run from LeGarrette Blount, a 35-yard field goal from Stephen Gostkowski and a 27-yard pass from Brady to Gronkowski before the Edelman touchdown to blow the game wide open.
New England will improve to 11-3 if the result holds up, while Miami’s wild-card hopes will take a serious dent with a loss as the Marine Mammals will fall to 7-7 if this score holds.
Gronkowski has three catches for 96 yards and a touchdown, passing the 1,000-yard mark in receiving for the second time in his career.
