The Green Bay Packers needed a win against the Buffalo Bills to stay in control of the NFC, but their upset loss means Seattle can win the No. 1 seed.

All the Green Bay Packers needed to do was win the rest of their games this season to win a first-round bye in the postseason, but the upset loss at the hands of the Buffalo Bills means that Green Bay could miss out on all of that and drop to a Wild Card game.

Green Bay drops to 10-4 on the season and can only hope to finish at 12-4 on the year. They’re now a game behind the Arizona Cardinals who sit at 11-3 and in control of the No. 1 seed in the NFC. If the Cardinals start to lose though, the Packers have lost almost all the leverage they have when it comes to the No. 1 seed and their control over it.

The Week 1 loss the Packers suffered against the Seattle Seahawks could come back into play, as all the Seahawks need to do is win out and they’d finish with the same record as the Packers. That loss gives the Seahawks the tie-breaker over the Packers and if it comes down to it they would get the No. 1 seed and home field advantage throughout the postseason.

That’s huge, as we’ve seen how important the 12th Man in Seattle is to the Seahawks success, and with their defense turning it up at the right time, that home field advantage could be massive.

Of course, the Seahawks need to win out and the Cardinals need to fall off from first place, but the Packers lost their grip on the No. 1 seed with their loss on Sunday in Buffalo.
