Taking a look at the NHL three stars of the week

No. 1 Star: Bobby Ryan
Finally we get a goal of the year candidate that isn’t from Vladimir Tarasenko! In case you missed it, Bobby Ryan went into full “NHL 15 mode” against the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday night. Ryan zipped and deked his way past four Kings players to score an amazing goal. You know, the kind some 12 year old pulls on you over Xbox Live and you remark how it would never work in real-life. For most players that is true, but Bobby Ryan has shown he has the ability to pull off some amazing goals throughout his career.
No. 2 Star: Kevin Klein
New York Rangers defenseman Kevin Klein added another story to the “NHL players are really tough” collection this week. During the first period of Monday night’s game against the Pittsburgh Penguins, Klein lost a chunk of his ear on a Zach Sill high stick. The medical staff was able to repair Klein’s ear and he was back on the ice for the second period. That alone makes for a good hockey story, but Klein wasn’t finished. He then scored the game winning goal in overtime to give the Rangers a 4-3 win.
No. 3 Star: Martin Brodeur
You can’t blame people for being skeptical of the St. Louis Blues decision to sign Martin Brodeur to a one-year contract. It’s been just one week, but so far it looks like they made a good choice. Brodeur earned his first win as a Blue last Saturday – coming in to a relieve a struggling Jake Allen and then out-dueled Florida Panthers goaltender Roberto Luongo for a 4-2 win. This isn’t the Marty of 1995 anymore, but he has shown that there is still a little gas left in the tank.
