The Chicago Cubs were able to sign arguably the best starting pitcher on the free agent market in Jon Lester, and they are extremely excited moving forward. David Ortiz was hoping that the Boston Red Sox could bring Lester back, but that obviously didn’t end up being the case. He had some fun with his former teammate after Lester ended up choosing to wear the same number as him in Chicago.
Ortiz and Lester were good friends during his time in Boston, so there is probably a bit of disappointment from Ortiz that he didn’t return to the Sox. That being said, this was a funny tweet from Ortiz to Lester and showed the friendship that the two have had throughout their careers.
Hey @JLester31 if you wanted my number all you had to do was ask jajajaja.....best of luck in chicago bro!!! pic.twitter.com/pjkTSzmxij

Needless to say, this was a huge signing for the Cubs and they are moving forward very quickly in their rebuilding process. Theo Epstein has a great relationship with both of these guys, and he is one of the main reasons that Lester wound up in Chicago. It will be very intriguing to see what ends up happening this year for the Cubs, and what type o season Lester is able to put up for them.
