Tom Herman is leaving Ohio State after three seasons as the Buckeyes’ offensive coordinator to return to the state of Texas where his coaching career began in 1998 and will have his first head coaching job at Houston where he takes over for Tony Levine, according to Bruce Feldman.
Herman, 39, won the Broyles Award as the nation’s top assistant coach after coaching the Ohio State offense to the Big Ten Championship and a berth in the College Football Playoff after replacing four offensive lineman, a 1,000-yard rusher and Braxton Miller less than two weeks before the season started.
BREAKING #OhioState OC Tom Herman is expected to become the new head coach at #Houston, source told @FoxSports.

His development of quarterback J.T. Barrett who finished fifth in the Heisman Trophy voting kept Ohio State afloat without two-time Big Ten player of the year in Miller and hung 59 points on Wisconsin in the Big Ten Championship Game with third string quarterback Cardale Jones. He has worked in the state of Texas at Texas Lutheran, Sam Houston State, Rice and as a grad assistant at Texas.
If I was a #Houston fan I'd be thrilled. I think Tom Herman is as close to a 'Can't Miss' as you're gonna find in a first-time head coach.

Ohio State will play Alabama in the Sugar Bowl in January and while it is not confirmed that he will continue to coach at Ohio State through the playoffs, Football Scoop is under the impression that he will stay at Ohio State until their season is over.
I haven’t spoken w Tom; but I would think he will continue to coach Ohio State through their playoff run. Hard to walk away from that
