When the Seattle Seahawks travel to Arizona to take on the Cardinals Sunday, they are likely to be without starting left tackle Russell Okung. Okung suffered a bruised lung in the first half of Sunday’s win over San Francisco, and it will likely keep him from playing next week.
Okung was hit by 49ers defensive tackle Ray McDonald after a Russell Wilson interception on the final play of the first half. Okung was coughing up blood on the sideline as the team walked toward the locker room, and was seen pushing a trainer who was trying to help him. Okung was later taken to the hospital for observation.
Okung was replaced by backup Alvin Bailey, who played well. Bailey is expected to get the start on Sunday against the Cardinals. It is unknown if Okung will be back in time for the Week 17 matchup against the St. Louis Rams.
The Seahawks have also been playing without All-Pro center Max Unger who missed his fourth consecutive game with a sprained ankle. The Seahawks are typically conservative with players who are returning from injuries, choosing not to rush them back.
Seattle’s offensive line has been a problem for the Seahawks at times this season. They’ve had to start four different players at center, and rookie right tackle Justin Britt has struggled in pass protection.
At this point, Seattle is just hoping to get Unger and Okung healthy and ready for the playoffs.
