After leading TCU to an 11-1 record and a share of the Big 12 conference title Gary Patterson has been named the Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year by the Football Writers Association of America.

Gary Patterson defied preseason projections and predictions when he led the TCU Horned Frogs to an 11-win season and a share of the Big 12 title with the Baylor Bears after a 4-8 season last year. He was rewarded with the 2014 Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year Award on Monday afternoon by the FWAA, adding to his Home Depot Coach of the Year Award he won last week at the College Football Awards Show.

This was Patterson’s ninth season with double-digit wins but the first since 2011. TCU won a total of 11 games over the last two seasons but a new offense under Doug Meacham and Sonny Cumbie led to the Horned Frogs having the nation’s No. 2 scoring offense and quarterback Trevone Boykin finishing fourth in the Heisman voting and being named a second team All-American.

TCU will play Ole Miss in the Peach Bowl.

Patterson has a career record of 131-45 with five conference titles and a 7-5 record in bowl games.
