ESPN NFL blowhard Merril Hoge’s latest rant is against whoever suggested the Cleveland Browns draft Johnny Manziel loses his job, not quite realizing that the person who did is a homeless man.

There are those who will tell you that listening to NBC’s Cris Collinsworth is similar to being in the seventh circle of Hell. If that’s the case, then hearing the voice of ESPN NFL analyst Merril Hoge is one circle below.

The four-letter network’s resident know-it-all (if only in his mind) embarked on his latest rant, via the Cleveland Plain Dealer, bellowing for one and all to know that he feels whoever made the decision for the Browns to draft Johnny Manziel should be fired.

“[W]hoever drafted him in Cleveland, they need to be fired,” Hoge said.  “Because it’s unfair to the kid.  He has sixth-round talent but first-round hype, and you draft him there and now regardless of what happens from here on out, he will be expected to play like a first-rounder and that’s unfair to him.

“He doesn’t have the skill set to withstand that expectation and that’s not his fault, it’s the Cleveland Browns’ for drafting him that high.”

The “brilliance” that is Hoge must have slipped. ESPN’s answer to Cliff Clavin from Cheers failed to realize that Cleveland owner Jimmy Haslem told The Worldwide Leader’s Sal Paolantonio that the call to draft the former Heisman winner came from a homeless man. That said, perhaps Hoge would love nothing more than to take the man’s meager belonging plus his night at a homeless center.

Manziel fan or not, those who loathe Hoge would love nothing more than to watch Johnny Football become at least a competent starter, if for nothing more than to mute ESPN’s Mouth That Bored.
