Michael Morse had an up and down season with the Giants in 2014, but it ended on a high note, with two crucial swings of the bat. Part of the downs for Morse was his sketchy defense in left field and his tendency to suddenly go on long hitting droughts.

However, he made the hits when it counted to help the Giants to their third World Series victory in four years. Now, he’s headed to the Marlins to play first base.

According to Henry Schulman of SF Gate, Morse has signed a two-year deal with the Marlins that includes incentives.

Morse played capable first base for Giants in a few stretches of the season when Brandon Belt was out, but with Belt back and plenty of other options at first base, the Giants didn’t need him for that position, and likely were hesitant to put him back in left field. Morse spent much of the end of the season and the postseason on the bench, but it ended up being his play off the bench that helped the Giants in the end.

He came off the bench to hit the eighth-inning home run to tie a decisive Game 5 of the National League Championship Series against the St. Louis Cardinals. Morse then broke open Game 7 with his RBI single and ended up driving in two of the Giants’ three runs in the game.

It’s hardly a surprise that Morse is leaving, the Giants FO indicated they would not match another team’s multi-year deal.

There also wasn’t much of a position left for him by the end of the season.
