2. Shaq Look at These Numbers

Date: May 13, 2001 vs. Sacramento Kings
Stats: 48 points, 16 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, 1 block

2001 may seem like a long time ago, because it somewhat is. Unlike the Sacramento Kings of present time, back in 2001 the Sacramento Kings were one of the best teams in the NBA. The San Antonio Spurs, Minnesota Timberwolves and Los Angeles Lakers all had trouble against the Kings because their starting five was good enough to compete with them all. There was a young Chris Webber and Mike Bibby who both were good enough to score 30 points on any given night.

Doug Christie was a lockdown defender who was starting to figure out that he was special defensively. However on this night facing a 4-0 series sweep, Christie’s defense was not enough to contain Kobe Bryant. The Black Mamba went off for 48 points and eliminated the Kings from advancing any further in the playoffs. Kobe also added in 16 rebounds, three assists, two steals and one block for good measure.

Kobe went onto average 35.0 points on 47 percent shooting, 9.0 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 1.3 steals and 0.5 blocks against the Kings in the series.
