New York Giants Coach Tom Coughlin Mum About Future
By Phil Watson
New York Giants coach Tom Coughlin is bouncing to the finish in another non-playoff season, but he doesn’t want to talk about his future.
Tom Coughlin and the New York Giants will miss the playoffs for the third straight season following their run from 9-7 division champ to Super Bowl winners following the 2011 season.
But that doesn’t mean Coughlin wants to talk about what’s next … other than Sunday’s game.
"“No, my concern is with our team getting ready to play the St. Louis Rams and I’m sure [my future] will be dealt with at the right time,” Coughlin told nj.com."
The New York Post reported Sunday there is a “99.9 percent” chance Coughlin will be back in 2015, citing a source “familiar with the club’s thinking.”
Coughlin has built up a lot of loyalty in the organization with two Super Bowl titles in his 11 seasons on the job.

The Giants (5-9) have won two straight games after beating the Washington Redskins 24-13 on Sunday and face the Rams for their final road game of the year. They return home to play the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 17.
Coughlin will be 69 before next season begins, so it’s likely he doesn’t have a lot of time left on the job in any event.
He was hired to replace Jim Fassel after the 2003 season and has let the Giants to a 95-79 regular-season record and an 8-3 playoff mark, with all of those victories coming during Super Bowl runs after the 2007 and 2011 seasons.
Coughlin returned to coaching in New York after being out of the game for a season. He was fired by the Jacksonville Jaguars after the 2002 season following consecutive 6-10 campaigns.
He was Jacksonville’s first coach and led the team to the AFC Championship in just its second season in existence. In eight seasons in Jacksonville under Coughlin, the Jaguars were 68-60 in the regular season and 4-4 in the playoffs. They also lost the 1999 AFC title game.
He made the jump from college head coach to pro head coach after three seasons at Boston College, where he was 21-13-1 from 1991-93.
But he had an extensive background as an NFL assistant, with stints as wide receivers coach for the Philadelphia Eagles in 1984-85, the Green Bay Packers in 1986-87 and the Giants under coach Bill Parcells in 1988-90.
Collegiately, he was head coach at Rochester Institute of Technology from 1970-73 and an assistant at Syracuse and Boston College from 1974-83.
