Paralympian Sarah Storey has her eyes on setting a women’s cycling record for the hour record in February.

At a certain point in time, cycling records were split up according to the “technology used by the athlete.” Now there are united records, and paralympian Sarah Storey has her eyes on setting the women’s hour record next month.

Here is more about Storey’s pursuit, courtesy of The Guardian:

"Britain’s most decorated Paralympian Sarah Storey is to attempt the women’s hour record at the end of February at the Revolution Series track meeting in the Lee Valley VeloPark. The record was set in 2003 by Leontien Zijlaard-Van Moorsel of the Netherlands and stands at 46.065km. One British woman who held the record in the past is the Sydney Olympic medallist Yvonne McGregor."

Storey says she is “excited and nervous” at the prospect of breaking the record, quoted in the Guardian. “I did a couple of days’ testing up at the Manchester Velodrome to try and work out the output that would be involved over an hour to have a realistic chance of challenging it and we decided that I stood a fighting chance.”

For my part, I feel safe in speaking for many people when I say it is easy to root for Sarah Storey to set a new mark for the women’s hour record next month.

The Revolution Series will take place next month at Lee Valley VeloPark. Many of the world’s best in cycling will be there next month to compete in the series, where many eyes will surely be on Sarah Storey.
