The Associated Press reports that over 500 NFL employees have surrendered their email and phone records to Robert Mueller’s ongoing investigation of the league’s handling of the Ray Rice case.
As former FBI director Robert S. Mueller III continues his investigation of the NFL and its handling of all things Ray Rice after his domestic violence charge surfaced, it appears even standard desk employees are being involved. The Associated Press reports that over 500 NFL employees have had their emails and phone records scoured in the name of investigation.

Mueller was commissioned by the league’s team owners to further investigate where it went wrong in its handling of Ray Rice. Commissioner Roger Goodell initially hit Rice with a weak two-game suspension for hitting his wife, Janay Rice. When video surfaced from the elevator in which Ray hit Janay, a media storm ensued and the league backtracked on its decision, turned the suspension indefinite, which has since been overruled.
Now Mueller and his team want to know if the league saw this elevator video before it was leaked to the public by TMZ on September 8.
Of course, Mueller was chosen by NFL owners and this is the same league that inexplicably burned the tapes of evidence against the New England Patriots after the Spygate scandal. It’s hard to believe that any kind of investigation will uncover what we think it will, but it’s equally hard to imagine a lack of results it will sway public opinion in the league’s favor.
The NFL was caught with its pants down and even as it publicly commissions an old friend to investigate its indiscretions, it’s hard to believe this isn’t all more for show than it is for an actual desire to learn the truth.
