The Cleveland Cavaliers are still the favorites to land free agent shooting guard Ray Allen.

Free agent shooting guard Ray Allen remains undecided about whether he will retire or return for his 19th NBA season.

However, if the most prolific three-point shooter in NBA history does indeed lace ’em up again, expect him to do so for the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Tim Kawakami of the Mercury News recently broke down the Golden State Warriors’ pursuit of Allen and called the Cavaliers Allen’s “first choice.”

"This is exactly why the Warriors have put feelers out for free agent Ray Allen, but have so far gotten no indications that he’s ready to sign with the Warriors.Allen would obviously not be a defensive force, but can you imagine closing a game with Curry, Thompson and Allen on the floor at the same time? I know the Warriors can and have.Plus Allen could at least give the Warriors 10 minutes a game at the SG alongside Livingston, and you know he’d space the floor. But again, Allen has given no indication that he’s interested in joining the Warriors–it still sounds like Cleveland is his first option if he comes back."

This is far from surprising; the Cavs are the obvious destination for Allen. The shooting guard is known to be great friends with LeBron James from their days playing on the Miami Heat. Also, even with how well Golden State is playing right now, the Cavaliers likely remain Allen’s best chance at another championship, given Cleveland plays in the dreadful Eastern Conference.

The question is: Will Allen return?

It appears we will have to wait a bit longer to find out the answer, as ESPN is reporting that Allen won’t make a decision until 2015.

I would count on Allen trying to make a run at another title with Cleveland, but perhaps he is enjoying retirement and is done with hoops.

This is certainly a situation to monitor.
