Former Dallas Cowboys fullback Daryl Johnston says all is not lost with running back DeMarco Murray out with an injury.

The Dallas Cowboys will be taking on the Indianapolis Colts without the help of running back DeMarco Murray. As he chases a 2,000 yard season, Murray has been the work horse of the Cowboys offense and credited for the team’s success this season.

While the fans are freaking out as Murray recovers from surgery on his hand earlier this week, Cowboys former fullback Daryl Johnston went on the air on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas to calm their concerns.

His message, the Cowboys have quality players behind Murray.

“Well, obviously, when you’ve got somebody who’s in pursuit of 2,000 yards not too long ago and everybody’s talking about that, it’s obviously going to impact the team,” Johnston said, via the Dallas Morning News. “But I’ve been impressed with Joseph Randle and Lance Dunbar during the course of the year when they’ve gotten in situationally. And they’ve had some big runs. Sometimes it’s just about getting on the field, establishing a rhythm, getting a feel how the offensive line is matching up with the defensive line, where are the running lanes, what are some of the adjustments I have to do as opposed to what I’ve seen on film. It’ll be interesting to see how they pan out.

“I don’t think it’s dire because DeMarco Murray has been such a huge part of the offense, and dire in the sense that, ‘oh my gosh, the season’s over,’ it’s not like that. When you lose somebody who’s meant that much to your team, who I think really gives you an emotional lift with his style of running, that’s going to be tough to replace. There’s a number of different things that you’re not going to have when you lose DeMarco Murray and it’s up to those guys to step up. It’s that next-man-up mentality that everybody talks about in the NFL, but it’s very critical in the month of December.”
