The Dayton Flyers kicked centers Devon Scott and Jalen Robinson off the men’s basketball team after the two were charged with trespassing in student dorm rooms.

Dayton’s solid 7-2 start to this basketball season took a huge hit on Wednesday, as the Flyers kicked starting center Devon Scott and backup big man Jalen Robinson off the team for trespassing.

Scott and Robinson were allegedly involved in a series of thefts in which the pair broke into the rooms of dorms and stole money.

Scott, a 6-9 junior from Cincinnati, was averaging 9.1 points and a team-best 7.4 rebounds per game. Robinson, a 6-9 junior from Columbus, was averaging 3.2 points and 2.4 rebounds while averaging 15 minutes a game. The two both played in Dayton’s most recent game, a 69-55 loss at Arkansas last Saturday.

The Flyers are off until Saturday night when they host Boston University, yet the team now finds itself in a major disadvantage, as Scott and Robinson were the team’s two tallest players. Without the pair, Dayton now must go forward without a player standing more than 6-6. The team could chose the option to take the redshirt off freshman center Steve McElvene, whose 6-11 frame is now a very welcome sight.

If Dayton does keep McElvene on the sidelines, the Flyers may have to turn to 6-6 forward Dyshawn Pierre, who is the team’s second-leading scorer with 11.8 points per game. The team does have three other players that stand 6-6: junior Bobby Wehrli, sophomore Kendall Pollard and freshman Detwon Rogers.

For now, the Flyers will have to defy the adage that size does matter.
