The Boston Celtics are tying to trade small forward Jeff Green in an attempt to expedite their rebuild.

Jeff Green has always seemed like an obvious trade chip for the Boston Celtics.

The Celtics are in the midst of rebuild and Green, a veteran small forward, doesn’t really make sense in such a plan.

So, it should come as little surprise that Yahoo Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski is reporting that Boston is trying to move the 28-year-old. Moving Green makes even more sense, considering the Celtics are also looking to deal its best player, Rajon Rondo, according to Wojnarowski.

"Boston has been consistently shopping forward Jeff Green, trying to acquire a package that includes a first-round draft pick, sources said. Rondo being available would suggest Celtics general manager Danny Ainge is prepared to undergo a deeper rebuilding project and push harder for the highest possible draft position in the 2015 NBA draft."

It certainly would be interesting if Boston dealt both Rondo and Green, leaving its roster extremely thin and giving themselves a great shot at landing a top pick in the 2015 NBA Draft. Striping down one’s roster appears to be the template for rebuilding these days and the Celtics might just hop on board in a big way.

Green is averaging 19.7 points and 4.5 rebounds per game this season, while Rondo is averaging eight points, 10.6 assists and 7.5 rebounds.

The Celtics are 8-14 through 22 games this season.
