Never heard of the position? That’s because it is a newly created one just for Luck. According to si.com his job will be to see the day-to-day operations in all NCAA regulatory functions. It is a position that really combines other previous positions into one. He will essentially be the number two man in the NCAA behind Mark Emmert, who said he was very pleased to have Luck come aboard.
"He brings to us wide ranging, hands-on experience from across athletic, academic, and business worlds"
Luck has been a busy man as of late. In addition to his duties at West Virginia, he was also on the College Football Playoff Committee. Joining the NCAA means he will need to vacate that post. Archie Manning previously left the committee early in the season thanks to knee surgery.
Luck had been West Virginia’s athletic director since 2010. During his tenure the Mountaineers moved from the Big East to the Big 12, now off he goes to the NCAA. He will be based in Indianapolis. Oh and he might know someone already in Indianapolis. You might have heard of him? His son Andrew is the quarterback of the Indianapolis Colts.
