Texas Christian University (TCU) head coach Gary Patterson has won the Walter Camp Coach of the Year Award.
The Walter Camp Coach of the Year award is given annually to a collegiate head football coach who is judged to be the coach of the year. It is decided by a group of NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision head coaches, sports information directors and the Walter Camp Football Foundation.

This year, the winner of the award goes to TCU head coach Gary Patterson.
Patterson just completed his 15th season as TCU head coach. After a disappointing 4-8 record last season, Patterson led the Horned Frogs to a huge turnaround this season. TCU finished with an 11-1 record and finishing 5th in the nation, just missing out on college football’s first ever playoff by just one spot.
After how TCU finished last season though, I think Patterson and the Horned Frogs will settle for that. TCU did, however, earn a spot in the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl against Ole Miss.
It is the second time Patterson has won the award.
Patterson received the honor back in 2009 after leading TCU to a 12-0 record and a birth in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl. He joins Penn State’s Joe Paterno (1972, 1994, 2005) and Oklahoma’s Bob Stoops (2000, 2003) as the only head coaches that have one the award multiple times.
It’s been a very eventful last couple of weeks for Gary Patterson. During that span, Patterson has been awarded the Associated Press, Big 12, and Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year awards.
A day after the latter award, it was reported that the TCU head coach was offered a new contract with the school. Details of the deal were not released, all athletic director Chris Del Conte would say is that Patterson is taken care of ‘through the decade’.
Not a bad couple of weeks at all for Gary Patterson.
