Leon Washington Scores For Tennessee Titans, Gives Son Ball (Videos)
By Phil Watson
It was a nice moment in Jacksonville for Tennessee Titans running back Leon Washington, who scored the game’s first touchdown and gave his son a gift.
Tennessee Titans running back Leon Washington got the team on the board in the first quarter against the Jacksonville Jaguars, catching a short pass from Charlie Whitehurst and fighting his way into the end zone for an 8-yard touchdown.
The 32-year-old from Jacksonville then had a nice moment when he when to the back of the end zone to hand the ball up into the crowd to his son.
Washington is in his ninth season and has been seldom used on offense. This was just his 16th reception and second touchdown of the year.
The former All-Pro kick returner with the New York Jets is still handling those chores for the Titans as well, but his 23.4 yards per return is his lowest mark for a full season of return duties.
Here’s the scoring play that gave Tennessee a 7-0 lead in its “showdown” with the Jaguars—with both teams coming in with 2-12 records.
Washington was once one of the more feared kickoff-return specialists in the league. He scored three touchdowns on kickoff returns for the Jets in 2007 and repeated the feat with the Seattle Seahawks in 2010.
He has eight career kickoff return scores in all, but his last was in 2012.
