The NFL season is winding down and the number of players still at the very tip of the ratings mountain is not what it used to be. In fact, it appears that the number of players with top ratings has gone way down with only two players owning the coveted 99 overall rating in the latest roster update.

It appears that the latest Madden 15 features only two players made the cut to be rated 99 overall and those two players are Rob Gronkowski and J.J. Watt.

There have been a lot of great players in the NFL this season, but to have just Watt and Gronk as 99 overall ratings seems like we’re either going light on the rating or putting too much stock in these two players — or both.

To be fair, Watt is having an MVP season and Gronk is back to his old self, but a fairer rating for Gronk might be a 97 overall or even a 98 overall.

Suggesting that they’re both 99 overall players is to suggest that Gronk is as much a part of the MVP discussion as Watt is at this point in the season and that’s just wrong.

Then again, these Madden ratings go on a week-by-week basis and if Aaron Rodgers can fall from the ranks of the Madden elite, then there’s no saying Gronk can’t rise above.
