The Dallas Mavericks are one of many teams contending for point guard Rajon Rondo’s services as the Boston Celtics look to make a trade. The Mavericks, along with the Houston Rockets, seem to have the interest of Rondo given reports that he’d be willing to re-sign with either team.
Now it looks like the Mavericks are distancing themselves and establishing themselves as the front runner to land Rondo.
While it is unclear whether this was in relations to a trade between Boston and Dallas, the Los Angeles Lakers and the New York Knicks were not willing to facilitate a three-way deal.
While Dallas is the front runners, that doesn’t mean other teams are giving up. The Rockets reportedly are still fighting to land Rondo, which is compelling given the two Texas franchises’ rivalry on and off the court, which particularly came to a head this summer during free agency.
While nothing has happened yet, a deal could be imminent and coming over the next few days. Fox Sports Ohio’s Sam Amico reports that a league executive told him he doesn’t imagine this dragging out to next week.
