If you haven’t seen the San Jose Sharks’ ‘Holiday Sweater’ rap video, you might want to watch that before reading this — although I apologize in advance for what it does to your eyes.

In a recent post-game media interview, Sharks head coach Todd McLellan took a jab at the Hockey Writers’ reporter Andrew Bensch, teasing him for calculating stats at home on his computer. It seems the team isn’t done making fun of the advanced stats crowd, though — following the smash hit ‘Holiday Sweater’ going viral, the team decided to break down the single in a way that even the nerdiest of Corsi-worshippers could understand.
That’s right — the San Jose Sharks have published a Fancy Stats Infographic for the song Holiday Sweater. This is a real thing.
The graphic, published for your viewing pleasure below, goes over everything from the number of times ‘holiday’ and ‘sweater’ are uttered throughout the song — in the form of a shot attempts chart, naturally — to the number of words rapped per sixty seconds (a play on the shots for/against per60, a way of measuring game averages in fancystats land).
The conclusion best drawn from the infographic is that the team should never have traded Jason Demers, but don’t let that depress you too much — it also pays tribute to John Scott’s weird dog-barking episode, which is both uncomfortably hilarious and completely unnecessary for the video (which somewhat sums up how some people feel about John Scott’s presence on the ice).
The other conclusion best drawn, of course, is that the San Jose Sharks are spending WAY too much time celebrating the holidays, particularly for a team that may or may not qualify for the playoffs..
