In a five-player trade with the Miami Marlins and the New York Yankees the Marlins acquire Martin Prado while sending Pitcher Nathan Eovaldi to the Yankees.

In a trade announced as official today by the Marlins’ official Twitter account the Marlins acquire 2B Martin Prado and David Phelps while sending away SP Nathan Eovaldi, first baseman Garrett Jones and minor league pitching prospect Domingo German.

The Marlins acquire the ageless Prado and a solid pitcher in Phelps in a move that helps them offensively. Prado last year sported a nice .282 average with 12 homers and 58 RBI.

The move leaves the Yankees with a noticeable hole at second base and also seems to be taking away one of the few bright spots in the lineup last season. The move has many Yankee fans on Twitter in sheer amazement.

It would seem the Yankees will now let prospects Rob Refsnyder and Jose Pirela fight it out to be the team’s second baseman.

According to a report scouts believe in both of the players’ batting ability, but question their ability to play the field. This move may draw a lot of questions, but they are questions that will only be able to be answered next spring when the clubs take the field.

Prado brings with him the versatile ability that makes him a favorite wherever he goes and the ability to play a multitude of positions. Eovaldi is slated to step right into the Yankees rotation and who knows maybe they see something in the young prospect Domingo German that they think has big time player written all over him. This will be an interesting trade to revisit about the middle of next season.
