Former NFL safety Darren Sharper is in the middle of a serious case wherein he’s being accused of being a serial rapist and using drugged drinks to incapacitate his victims. Testimony surrounding the case is indicating that Sharper may not be the only NFL player who used these methods.
According to Pro Football Talk, an FBI agent revealed in a pre-trial hearing that Brandon Licciardi, one of Sharper’s co-defendants, told agents about a Las Vegas convention attended by multiple NFL players that saw the use of drugs to spike drinks given to women.
"The FBI agent declined to name any of the involved players Licciardi mentioned.“It’s possible I could mess it up,” FBI Special Agent Robert Blythe testified. “There are a couple.”Blythe said that none of the other players are being investigated — yet.“There could be investigations going forward. There’s not currently,” Bythe testified. “If given time, I intend to look into those allegations.” (via Pro Football Talk)"
Pro Football Talk also requested comment from the league and were met with the response that the NFL would look into any information of the nature alleged in this testimony.
The other disturbing part of the testimony was the information that Sharper was betting on both football and baseball games. It again raises the suspicion that many other players may be doing the same, whether in direct gambling or through high stakes fantasy football.
Either way, the NFL has to be concerned about such activity that might call into question the integrity of games, not to mention the possibly widespread rape allegations.
