Carolina Panthers ‘Very Confident” Cam Newton Will Start
By Josh Sanchez
Just one week removed from a car crash which resulted in two fractured transverse process in his back, Cam Newton is expected to start in Week 16.
The Carolina Panthers host the Cleveland Browns in Week 16 of the NFL regular season and they are expected to have their starting quarterback in the lineup for the crucial matchup.
Just one week after a serious car accident, the Panthers are “very confident” that Cam Newton will be able to return to the starting lineup despite two transverse process fractures in his back.
“He did a lot of turning and twisting today. We put a lot of pressure on it,” head coach Ron Rivera said, via the Charlotte Observer. “We had him do some things on purpose, and he seemed to be right on track. He’s had no ill effects every morning.”
Newton is officially listed as probably for the Sunday afternoon game.
Earlier in the season, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo suffered the same injury and only missed one game. Newton is now on track to do the same.
As far as protection on the field, Newton will wear the same flak jacket that he has worn since suffering cracked ribs in the preseason.
