The Dallas Mavericks put the Western Conference on notice this week when they made a move to trade for Boston Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo. He comes in and help bolsters arguably the weakest position on the Dallas roster, and immediately moves them into the conversation of contender.
Rondo is equally excited about joining the Mavericks, in part because it puts him on a team aiming for championship rings, something Rondo desperately wants.
“I’m dying to get a ring again,” Rondo said, via the Dallas Morning News. “I just want to get another parade.”
“I’m definitely excited and optimistic about the situation here,” Rondo added. “The future seems bright, and I’m just looking forward to winning a championship as fast as possible, and hopefully we can keep this team together.”
Of course time is of the essence for the Mavericks, who are trying to get a few more title runs while superstar power forward Dirk Nowitzki is still playing at the top of his game. The move has rejuvenated and re-energized Rondo.
“It was very challenging these last couple years,” he said. “Each year, you start training camp and all you talk about is winning a championship. And being realistic these last two years, our focus was just making the playoffs.
“To get back to that situation and be able to play with future hall of famers and a great coach and a team that’s ready to contend for a title, I’m fired up. I’m ready to go.”
