After Utah’s stout defense forced a punt from the potent offensive attack from Colorado State the Utes opened up the playbook and surprised the Rams with a trick play.
I guess when you have extra time to prepare for your bowl opponent you can get a little creative and put your playmakers to use and that’s just what the Utes did on their first offensive play of the game.
Travis Wilson ended up connecting with Kaelin Clay on a 36-yard reception, but not before a little trickeration confused the Rams who were exposed.
Utah would score two plays later on an eight-yard run from Wilson to put the Utes up 7-0. They would build on their lead on their next possession, following another punt from Colorado State as Wilson hit Delshawn McClellon for a 16-yard touchdown to give Utah a 14-0 lead early over Colorado State.
