Orlando Scandrick is a fiesty cornerback who always has a chip on his shoulder, but his competitiveness is fueling the Dallas Cowboys playoff run.

The Dallas Cowboys can wrap up the NFC East and earn a spot in the playoffs with a win over the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday afternoon.

While there are a number of factors that could contribute to the Cowboys’ success in 2014 — mainly the offensive line and play of running back Demarco Murray, who leads the NFL in rushing — but cornerback Orlando Scandrick has also been a big part.

Scandrick is the emotional defender you can always see on the field and sidelines trying to motivate and fire up his teammates.

That passion that Scandrick plays with has been a positive example for his teammates and is something that they all feed off of when they take the field.

“He has a real competitive nature to him,” Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett said, via the Star-Telegram. “We talked about it a lot — the chip on the shoulder that he plays with. He has always played with it. He is just someone who competes. He competes in everything he does and he positively impacts our team and it’s contagious.

“ [His teammates] look at him and they say we need to play that way, and I think that’s a really good thing. It’s good for our defense and it’s good for everybody on our team.”

The Cowboys’ defense was the laughing stock of the NFL heading into the season, but they have been playing better than anyone could have imagined this season.

Perhaps Scandrick deserves even more credit than he receives.
