Evgeni Malkin: Next Professional Paying Diver?
Evgeni Malkin’s two diving penalties could result in another NHLer getting fined this season
According to the rule changes made by the NHL this season, any player who receives two warnings for embellishment within one regular season is subject to the gradual fine put in place for the league — and that could include Evgeni Malkin after Saturday.

The Pittsburgh Penguins forward was penalized twice on Saturday night for diving; if he’s already been given an official warning by the league for embellishment, he’ll be subject to a $2,000 penalty.
He won’t be the first player if the league reveals that Malkin was one of the twenty-two players already warned this season — but he’ll be the second, which is still pretty bad.
The first, for those who don’t remember, was Malkin’s old teammate James Neal — the new Nashville Predators forward was fined just last week after some theatrics of his own.
I might be alone on this, but I’m actually more interested in who’s been warned by the league so far — is Corey Perry on the list? Brendan Gallagher? If not, why? I know that Sidney Crosby won’t be there — the Penguins captain has inexplicably never been penalized for embellishment in the NHL — but a Brad Marchand mention wouldn’t shock me too much.
It’s important to note that a penalization for diving does not necessarily result in a warning by the league, and that a player who is warned more than four times will subject his head coach to a monetary fine, as well.
