Police officers have found themselves as the subject of protests and much debate over recent months following a string of incidents resulting in the deaths of civilians. One case in New York City, where a police officer was not indicted, has resulted in regular protests and famous athletes wearing shirts that read “I can’t read.”
Over the weekend a pair of New York City police officers were sitting in their car when they were gunned down in an ambush attack, both men died.
Violence in either direction isn’t the answer, and New York Jets offensive lineman Nick Mangold honored the fallen officers by wearing an NYPD hat into the stadium ahead of their game against the New England Patriots.
It is a simple gesture but one that probably means the world to the families of the victims, but also police officers and their families everywhere.
