Richard Sherman says Arizona Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson would be benched if he was on the Seattle Seahawks and playing the way he has this this season.
Arizona Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson hasn’t had a great year this season, giving up eight receiving touchdowns, despite his reputation as a shutdown cornerback.

Peterson has performed so poorly this year that Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman is suggesting the Cardinals corner wouldn’t see the field if he played in Seattle.
From NBC:
"“At any point, if I gave up that many touchdowns, I think I would be benched on our team,” Sherman said. “We have a level of accountability and that’s what we strive for. You can’t give up big plays like that and still play.”"
Ouch.
It shouldn’t surprise anyone to see Sherman go after Peterson. Not only is Sherman always willing to speak his mind, he and Peterson engaged in a war of words this summer over who’s the better player. Eight allowed touchdowns to Peterson later, it’s clear Sherman doesn’t even think it’s a discussion anymore.
"I think at the end of the day, the tape will speak for itself. I don’t know if everybody’s compared on an even scale, and I don’t know if he should be mentioned with [the great cornerbacks in the league]. You give up eight touchdowns in a year; it’s hard to put you in that discussion.”"
Sherman and the Seahawks will face off against Peterson and the Cardinals Sunday night, with Arizona having an opportunity to clinch an NFC West title with a win.
