Flip Saunders: Minnesota Will Never Forgive Kevin Love
By Evan Massey
Minnesota Timberwolves head coach Flip Saunders doesn’t think that Minnesota fans will ever forgive former star Kevin Love.
Kevin Love left the Minnesota Timberwolves in the offseason after being the face of their franchise for six seasons. The fan base was crushed when he was finally traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers to join LeBron James and Kyrie Irving, and that hurt even worse for loyal ‘Wolves fans.

These situations usually aren’t forgotten by fans, and that is likely going to be the case in Minnesota as well.
Love was very emotional throughout his six-year career with the Timberwolves, and always seemed to have rumors surrounding him due to his unhappiness. He never was able to lead Minnesota to contention in the Western Conference, and that has left a sour taste in Minnesota fans’ mouths.
Timberwolves head coach Flip Saunders doesn’t believe that fans will ever forgive Love for leaving.
"“Minnesota people are pretty loyal. You turn on Minnesota, they don’t forgive you. So I think people probably appreciated him while he was here. But you leave under the terms that he did, just the way Minnesota people are, they’re not pretty forgiving along those lines.”"
Love obviously didn’t technically “choose” to leave, but he did force the Timberwolves’ hands in trade discussions. There was no way that he would consider returning to Minnesota in free agency, and they decided to get something in a trade rather than wait and let him walk away for nothing.
Minnesota fans are very emotional and very loyal, and that will make this situation an ugly one whenever he returns to play the Timberwolves while in Cleveland.
But could he ever get back in their good graces?
LeBron James left Cleveland to sign with the Miami Heat, but they have been more than happy to welcome him back. If Love chose to return to Minnesota, that would be the only way they would forgive him for leaving.
