Rangers Lee Stempniak Latest To Contract Mumps
By Robby Sabo
New York Rangers forward Lee Stempniak is now the latest victim of the NHL’s biggest enemy, Mumps.
Thanks to Sidney Crosby, we’ve all now seen what mumps can to do a hockey player’s face. Actually, it disfigures the face worse than a fourth-line goon looking to make a name for himself.
Now, New York Rangers forward Lee Stempniak is the latest victim to fall ill to the dreaded mumps. He follows Tanner Glass and Derick Brassard, as they both were fighting the virus last week.
Today has been a busy day in the world of hockey and mumps, as five more players are set to be tested, notes CBS Sports.
The Penguins, who now seem to be leading the charge in the category, sent Brandon Sutter, Steve Downie and Thomas Greiss home today as mumps are feared for all three.
The Penguins have had some issues with testing for mumps. Despite the state of Crosby’s face last week, the team had cleared the superstar of mumps as his tests came back negative. They found out he had acquired it through a second round of testing. The same can now be said for Greiss.
Sticking to the northeast, where it seems prevalent at the moment, the New Jersey Devils are having two players tested in forwards Martin Havlat and Patrik Elias. Travis Zajac and Adam Larsson have been two mumps cases for the Devils already this season.
For a virus that started out west with the Anaheim Ducks, it sure has made its way throughout the country in a hurry.
