The San Francisco Giants have shored up their pitching group by re-signing reliever Sergio Romo to a two-year, $15 million deal. Romo had apparently received offers from other teams for three years, something that tempted him to leave.
Ultimately he decided to stay with the Giants where he felt comfortable.
From the Giants’ website:
"“You want to go to a place where you’re happy and excited to go to work every day,”said Romo, whose accord with the Giants was leaked last week but didn’t become official until Monday."
"Said Giants manager Bruce Bochy of Romo: “He’s meant so much to our success. He knows all of us; we know him. I can’t say enough about how he carried himself this year. I know we made a switch, but he was all about winning.”"
Given the Giants winning ways over the last five seasons, you can’t blame Romo for wanting to stay in the Bay Area, especially if he puts a premium on championships. The Giants have won three World Series over the last five seasons, including just a couple of months ago when they defeated the Kansas City Royals.
Romo has played his entire professional career with the Giants.
