Butch Davis wants a chance to create another Miami Dynasty

More from College Football

The man who helped form the Miami Hurricanes dynasty in the late 90’s and early 2000’s would gladly welcome another shot at turning the Hurricanes into a power again.

Butch Davis left Miami in 2001 to become the head coach of the Cleveland Browns. In his time as coach of the Hurricanes he brought players in that would create one of the most dominating teams ever in college football history in 2001. That team will be remembered for running through the NCAA on its way to a national title. While Larry Coker was coach, Butch Davis was the one who built the team.

Davis, a guest on the Joe Rose Show in South Florida, spoke about his desire to return to Hurricanes football.

“I don’t think there’s any question that it’s a top-notch job,” Davis said on the show, “You can’t have that in your backyard of the number of athletes and players and the history and the tradition. Honestly, there’s 95 percent of the teams in the country that would kill to be able to sit in a home visit and say I represent a school that’s a private institution, that’s got a great academic reputation and has won five national championships in the last two or three decades.”

While Davis could be great for the program, they already have a head coach in Al Golden and there is no current coaching vacancy. Davis was also the head coach of the North Carolina Tar Heels when the school had issues with academic fraud. While Davis may have had no hand in it, the university might not want to attach themselves to it.

One thing is clear, Davis wants another chance to bring back the glory days of the U.
