Chad Kelly, nephew of former NFL quarterback Jim Kelly, was arrested for a brawl in a Buffalo, NY bar, but his attorney recently came to his public defense.

Former Clemson quarterback and current Ole Miss signal caller Chad Kelly’s attorney came to his defense amid videos posted online of Kelly’s murky involvement in an early morning brawl outside a bar in Buffalo, NY. Kelly was arrested for his part, which is being sorted out in some phase of the legal process.

Attorney Thomas J. Eonnanu said of the incident, per the Jackson Clarion-Ledger, “I think that someone put their hands out to Chad first and for a very brief period of time, a period of five or six seconds, it appears Chad was trying to defend himself while he was being assaulted.”

“… This is a very short brief struggle that as we all can see from the video Chad didn’t start and thankfully no one was injured,” Eonnanu added.

Deadspin posted a grainy video of the incident, but we hardly get the full picture there, for better or worse on Kelly’s behalf.

Charges surfaced that Kelly threatened to “go to my car and get my AK-47 and spray this place.”

“You can only surmise why someone would say it,” Eonnanu said in response to the charges.
