Despite being eliminated from playoff contention, Philadelphia Eagles coach Chip Kelly says the team will play to win in Sunday’s regular season finale at the New York Giants.

With their three-game freefall from NFC East leaders to playoff bystanders complete, the Philadelphia Eagles still feel there is something to play for in Sunday’s regular season finale against the New York Giants.

Oh, really?

“Let’s get that straight. We’re going (there) to win the football game,” said Eagles coach Chip Kelly. There’s no ‘hey, let’s go see what we can do.’ Our job is to go up and play the New York Giants and we’re going to do everything we can to beat the New York Giants.”

Eagles fans would prefer Kelly’s words would have put to deeds when losses to Seattle, Dallas and Washington torpedoed a playoff run that looked like a sure thing on Thanksgiving when their 33-10 trouncing of the Cowboys put them at 9-3 and on the outer edge of a first-round bye in the NFC playoffs. Like the theme of All in the Family, those were the days.

Kelly also made it clear that he would prefer to see the Eagles finish with a 10-6 mark at the expense of using the finale to give younger players an opportunity to play.

“The upside is we’re going to win a football game and that’s what this whole organization is all about,” he said.

Kelly also defended much-maligned cornerback Bradley Fletcher, who gave up three touchdown catches to Dallas’ Dez Bryant and two plays of over 50 yards to Washington’s DeSean Jackson the last two weeks.

“I thought Bradley had a good year,” he said.

Eagles fans would beg to differ….
